ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATORMaria Baumann
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICAMaria Baumann is an illustrator based in central Johannesburg, South Africa, with a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Stellenbosch. She has always preferred the fantastical to the real — a quality that makes her watercolors the natural home for Malaika's world. She brought a deeply personal investment to these illustrations, and in her own words, Malaika came to mean something profound to her in the process of creating them.
